One Presbytery Reps Report submitted by Leah Gray
“Open Spaces” Chris Corrigan, consultant to Kootenay Presbytery, has been involved in meetings with our various pastoral charges and engaging with congregations in discussions about the relationship between congregations and Presbytery. At this presbytery gathering he facilitated a group process he referred to as “Open Spaces.” This concept is based on the premise that the best learning often happens during conversations that take place during coffee breaks, not during a scheduled presentation. In other words, we are our own best teachers and know what interests us. We were invited to create our own agenda for Saturday, to develop topics to share concerns, activities and questions we have. In 3 different time slots people gathered in small “circle groups” to discuss a topic of their interest, some included: spirituality, funding sources, forming new structures, youth, support to small congregations, community outreach, camping, support to older members, service ideas, etc. Brief notes of the discussion were recorded and later collected for distribution to all participants. The collection of the these reports can be read here.
Kootenay Presbytery will gather again during BC Conference in Nanaimo, May 22–25.
