Hi, I’m Michelle Matson,

I’m 19 years old and I’m from Castlegar United Church.
I am the “Communications Animator” for Kootenay Presbytery this summer. Kootenay Presbytery received a grant for a summer student, and now here I am! Part of my job is researching the best and most effective communications practices for Kootenay Presbytery and the other part is designing a new website template.
I have been going to presbytery youth events ever since I was old enough, and I have attended two BC Conference meetings as a youth delegate representing Kootenay Presbytery. This lead to me being a commissioner at General Council 42 in Corner Brook, Newfoundland. These were all amazing experiences and I am incredibly grateful to have been raised in such a welcoming community like the United Church. Over the past year I have been on exchange in Denmark with Rotary and in September I head off to Thompson Rivers University to study Biology. But I’m excited to be back home this summer and take on this new project. I will be phoning and emailing around to all the congregation in Kootenay Presbytery for my research, and I would really appreciate your feedback.

On behalf of Kootenay Presbytery, Greg Powell developed a grant proposal through Canada Summer Jobs for a 9 week project which will end by August 26.

The purpose of this project is to hire a summer student who will undertake a position of “Communications Animator ” to conduct a research project and report on communications best practices for Kootenay Presbytery and its 15 constituent congregations; and develop a website template for the presbytery and the constituent congregations to use.

Michelle will contact churches and individuals throughout Kootenay Presbytery for their comments—good, bad, or otherwise— about how congregations are connecting with others through the electronic media: websites, etc. and to provide a report with recommendation to Greg and Kootenay Presbytery by the end of August.

Please give her your full cooperation as she tries to complete her project in a relatively short period of time.
